If I counted deleted ones, would be sitting roughly on 7k now.

Atm in inbox i have 2.1 k

You get a lot of PMs as an emperor / community leader lol . I rarely get any nowadays

And every time I log in I have this annoying pop up saying I have a message. Its been like that for years. Tried to look up for it but gave up after scrolling through messages as popup is not showing which message is unread...

Tried marking them all as read? Disabling notifications for new messages?

I am an idiot! Yes there is an option to remove pop-up.

However there is only option to remove all ticked messages and I really want to keep them as its like an archive of things, gossip, drama behind the curtain.
