Hey there guys,
Today I was talking with a friend about Counter strike 1.6 and Global Offensive. We got to the point that the game, correctly, is dying/dead but I was a bit curious and I "investigated" to see if we were talking only about what we thought or talking with facts and that is exactly what I searched, facts.

Well, after l went to steam charts and game tracker, I could find this information:

Counter strike Global Offensive: Having in mind that CS:GO has LCS,  popular streamers and a many mods, skins and 500k players daily, I would say that the game is not even near to be dead

Counter strike 1.6: As you can see the game has 18k players daily being in the ranking the number 30. If you check at the picture, you can see that got more players than skyrim, Assassins creed odyssey or world of tanks which is curious in my opinion so the game, is not dead. Maybe it is not what it used to be 10 years ago or when it was released but the game is not dead (still).

As a last note, i would like to give you this link: https://www.gametracker.com/search/cs/?sort=3&order=DESC#search  full of 32/32 servers (no matter the country) I mean the players.

-Now, what do you think? is it dead? maybe we dont know how to get players? I would like to share our opinions to see your point of view, thank you all! :)

imo, CSGO, if there are big events, official leagues and competitions (as ESL) is not even close to dead

a bit off-topic, imo, CSGO is dead for me coz:
-official servers have no admins, so hackers are happy and free
- wallbangs are really bad
- deagle and famas are a disaster, compared to 1.6. im really bad aimer, so famas is a perfect tool in burst mode, and in CSGO it sux

CSGO i personally think is nowhere close to dying, maybe not on its brightest days, but its quite a popular game. Cant say same about community servers, as valve seems to not care about them, but they have put quite a lot of effort into the game itself, including vac system changes, game updates, trust factor. The latter one makes me believe that burzum is wrong, it hasnt made the experience to be perfect, but has improved it a lot.

On the other hand, 1.6 in my opinion is on its last days, its old, has a lot of issues, and its only supported by the community, which is shrinking.

You cant really compare active playerbase of a competetive online game to a singleplayer story-driven experience.

One is always bound to be higher once the initial hype for the singleplayer game dies off and people finnish it.

well that is actually true xD for me cs:go has a very very long life still  because if people continue playing a 20 years old game nowadays, cs:go will go for the same way, and cs 1.6 is losing players day by day, but after 20 years old that the game still has 18k players daily is a hit, that is why i keep thinking that the game still has a loyal playerbase

What Rawr said; I stopped playing story mode games since I started competitive gaming.
Even if I play, it's just till I finish it once and then I'm done with it.
(Bought Max Payne 3, Borderlands 2 & Doom a few months ago and still haven't finished a single one of them)

Also imo CSGO isn't going to last as long as 1.6 once Valve decides they have something better to do.
CS 1.6 had a strong community base because of the lack of official servers.

CS 1.6 was and still is widely played because of its mods, mostly. Don't tell me it feels realistic or the graphics are good or the spraying patterns are superb. It is the only game that ever supported Jailbreak, GunGame, Superhero, Surf, Deathrun, Speedrun, Hide n Seek, Basebuilder, TTT, Battlefield, and what not.. Many other games tried but didn't go as well as CS. So easy to make maps, make games inside maps, make any kind of skin for free while you buy them in csgo, what else...

Nowadays CS is still played because most newer games do not even support community servers, let alone modding. I believe most players are still there for the mods, in many classic servers I see mostly boost bots and non-steamers.  I am however on the side that says CS is dying, dying does not necessarily mean low players but also the fact each player wants to have some fun and moves to mods and servers till they get bored. I do not expect many newcomers anymore, or at least any loyal ones.

here's a dead game
https://steamcharts.com/app/350280
no 1.6 and go isn't dead
just cause you don't play it doesn't mean it's dead
the reason i like cs and old games to stay up its cause it has mature audience and it gives memories of good times and my favorite mod has always been jailbreak, due to the communication and something new everyday
i like story games as well ,cause they tell a story.but once its done i just uninstall it cause its the same stuff
same with playing games such as gta 5 ,dust2,pubg , etc. i would not enjoy playing it alone
but in the end as we grow up we understand life better, and then we feel we're missing something,we just want to go back to the past.

however, currently jailbreak is doing fine ,yeah you can say "it's going to be dead after a few weeks",well i know you moved on with your "gaming life" just let us do what we do.
but i know in my friends list there are people active and supportive to help our server and bring back the good old times.
and we would like new players and move to a new platform but we still have something in our heart that makes us love 1.6 and some old games
i remember when i came here i was a cringy little boi
and some old games i loved as a kid
welp times changed, and i grew up
we all desire to go back to the past and become a child again,

i might've done some fucked up shit but i still miss the past, and we learn alot from the past

1.6 has 18k players playing at any time but thats STEAM only and I think there are way more non steam players than steam ones.

Also if you can open any game and find a match and enjoy it then no, the game is not dead.

Offline Alberto

All you say guys is the reality. People dont continue playing a game from 1999 even when there is a new one because the game is bad, it is because the game let you to play many mods, any you want, it is a classic game and for me one of the reasons of why the game is still alive with 18k steam players is because they can play with their respectives friends and have fun for a while, because not many people decide to play cs 1.6 alone but to play with friends (i believe) that is why no matter what kind of server you do from now on as basebuilder, zombie, hide n seek, jb, public, dd2.. it will always have players you can say 2 /10/32 . And in my opinion cs:go is a game from 2012 and in 3,5 years it will have 10 years and still it moves 500k players daily so the game will have a long life as cs 1.6 is having and from time to time the developers will let the community to have more control of the game and who knows, maybe they will release a new one in a few years

cs 1.6 in europe is kind of dead
In poor countries that have toaster machines is not, middle east, india, South east asia, Africa, south america.
Csgo is also on the same playerbase as overwatch that gradually loses players as time goes on, but russians and eastern europeans are gonna keep playing it since they have one whole of generation behind in hardware specification. If there were no hardware obstructions, everyone would have been playing battle royale garbage.

You people are so negative

Just (don't) play the game if you (don't) like it and stop dramatizing about everything and whatever

imo, CSGO, if there are big events, official leagues and competitions (as ESL) is not even close to dead
