Here's some fun facts for you guys dreaming about the glorious days of CS 1.6:
-5 years ago the average Steam CS player count(per month) was about 50.000. Back in 2012 we can say most players were non-steamers, so I'll add 75% of those, so 50.000 + 87.500 = 137.500 players/month. The "glorious" years of Ambrosia.
-Currently, ending of 2017, there are about 20.000 players/month. Now due to sales and people getting more familiar with the extremely popular Steam many moved on to steam CS, so if the Steamed players were cut more than half those 5 years, I'll do the same for non-steamers, about 40.000. So 20.000 + 40.000 = 60.000 players/month.
-Now that we've done the basics, let's go deeper. From those amounts, cut -20% that doesn't know Ambrosia for various reasons(not gonna spend my time writing them), cut -30% for non-english speaking players(this goes only for jb), and cut -25% more for the ones that don't like/play jb(this goes only for jb too, obviously) and a small percentage(10-15%) of players that play CS an hour per week, just for the sake of old days.
-For JB, you have about 10.000 eligible players. You must consider though that there are more than 50 JB servers out there, so about 200 players on average. Try get all those 200 jb players in the same community(Ambrosia), same month, same week, and get the server full. You can't.
-On a more general basis, if we slightly change the percentages you can get about 20.000 general CS players eligible for Ambrosia, but there are about 2000 servers with similar characteristics(public, dd2, surf, etc..). That means about 10 players per server, but mark this, per month!, not per hour/day. Some servers are not boosted, hence empty, so our dd2 gets more than 10, and mostly bots, which are not considered players.
-And of course for the ones that will claim "hey, we have 120 people joining the forum almost daily", not even half of them play CS anymore.
Don't expect the amounts to be precise, I did this in 5 minutes.
Long story short, I love your courage guys, I wanna help too, and I'm free almost whenever you invite me, but CS 1.6 is almost dead, you can try get players in any server and it could work for 1,2,3, maybe even 4 days, but that's it. Getting players in DD2 is easier than JB and look, if you don't boost it for just 2 days, it gets empty.
My opinion, like I said, keep 1-2 CS servers to remember where we came from, but move on. There are thousands of games, we could easily invest, and make Ambrosia bigger again. I'm on CS's side, but we gotta make some steps before it's too late and everyone leaves.
Regards.
