Case #6 - Time Is On My Side
Plot: A man crawls to the hospital screaming for help. When examined, he is found to have been gutted by someone. Find out what happened, decrypt the clues and indications.

Quote
Regional West Medical Center, Nebraska, 12PM.
Two doctors were having some coffee and talking. It was quiet in the hospital at those times, patients were sleeping, most doctors and nurses leaving, only some security and employees for the night shift were left.
-...so, my idol when I was studying to become a doctor was Dr.Ryan Mudlock. He was so brilliant for the era, always making breakthroughs.
-Aah, I remember him. Great scientist he was. He disappeared 8 years ago at age 86, right?
-Yeah. Well, he had stomach cancer... he probably died somewhere, they just never found him. But his methods, his backstory, the medicine improvements he'd made, trying to prolong life.. Just wow.
-True.. You know, the vending machine "ate" my buck today.
-Huh? I used it yesterday, bought a chocolate bar.
-I'm telling you, it did. Anyway, gonna drink my coffee, and going straight home. There's a re-run of The Walking Dead every night at this time, and I missed some of it already.
As they were talking, the motion-sliding doors of the main entrance opened. There was a man, crawling inside. He was full of blood, screaming for help.
-HEEELP! Please, help me!
The doctors ran to his aid.
-What happened?!!
-I was... aah, jogging, and.. someone attacked me from behind.. p-please, it's so painful.
They quickly examined him. His abdomen was cut open, and his liver was missing.
-Oh my god. Who the hell would do that?
Few hours later, still at the hospital.
-Good morning, sir. I'm Detective Steve Rogers and this is my partner, Adam Winchester. I am sorry for your attack, and I'm glad you're ok now.
-Well, thank you. I have a surgery in a few hours, thank god he only took my liver and I didn't end up dying.
-You're alive because you fought back. You crawled all the way to the hospital, you saved your own life. We heard you were jogging in the woods last night, right?
-Yeah, from about 10PM. I wasn't far from here, just on the northern side of the forest. I was jogging for about half hour, when I heard a sound coming from some bushes. I didn't pay any attention to it, and few seconds later I sat down on a bench to take a few breaths, and then someone hit me from behind. Now I can tell it was him, hiding in the bushes.. or her, I don't know, whoever attacked me. I.. I blacked out, and then I woke up later, deeper in the woods. It was all blurry, I heard a voice, probably manly, saying something about "being near the cabin, but no time to reach it", or something like that. Few minutes later, when I really got my sense back, I was bleeding, and in big pain. I started running and running, till I could not run anymore, so I crawled.
-I see... Is there anything else you can remember or describe? The location you woke up at? Any familiar sounds, smells.. anything?
-Well, it was very dark, and I was feeling so bad I thought I was seconds from dying... I think I heard some water, running, or some splashes, can't be sure... But I know I heard water.
-Is there anyone who holds a grudge on you to the point they'd want to kill you, or any other reason you can connect to your attack?
-Huh? Of course not, who the hell would steal my liver from the people I know?...
-Alright, thank you very much. Hope you recover as soon as possible.
The police were leaving the hospital, planning their next movements.
-What are we supposed to do now? Where do we begin? The forest is huge, and surrounds the whole city, it can take weeks to search everywhere.
-Well, we start from the northern side, where he started jogging at.
In the meantime, there was a big group of protesters walking around the city, holding signs, shouting. They were protesting for human donations, encouraging them. It was even on TV:
"How many people die every year due to lack of donations? How many people die anually and their families decline to donate their beloved ones' organs and blood to help other people's lives? Give out some of your blood, a piece of your liver, your lost relative's lungs, save someone's life, just like you'd want yours to be saved. I am the chairman of the "People's Donations Motion", and I will personally do whatever it takes to save people's lives."
-Blablabla, what a joke. How much money does he get monthly for donations?
-Thousands. And we're officers, working even more overtime than our actual shifts and don't get even a quarter.
-I heard his business aint going well lately. Since that scandal show revealed his annual incomes from donations they have decreased a lot. He'll be having financial issues really soon.
-I got a day off next Monday. Let's go fishing at the lake.
-Which one? North or East?
-East, of course. Better spots, bigger fish. Plus, it's much closer, we don't have to walk too much.
Not long after, the police were already at the chairman's office, at "P.D.N.".
-Can I help you, gentlemen?
-As a matter of fact, you can. You've been making some public statements lately, so you're officially a suspect for one of our cases.
-Huh? What?
-Where were you last night between 10PM and 12PM?
-Home.. watching the TWD re-runs, like always. What the hell is this, I didn't do anything!
-Can anyone confirm you were home?
-Am I supposed to answer that?
-Yes, and we're running out of patience.
-Well, my wife was sleeping.. so I guess not. What do you want from me? Am I under arrest?
-Not yet, but don't leave the city for the next few days.
They left the office.
-I don't like this guy, I smell he's "dirty".
-Couldn't agree more.
In the meantime, dozens of police officers and dogs were searching through the woods from all sides. While searching the East Area, they found a piece of paper. It seemed to be something like a coded message.
"-rg-ns n--d-d l-st
St-m-ch
L-v-r
P-ncr--s
-y-s

mdlck.r"
On the northern area, they were looking, deep in the forest, but were not find anything. There were a few houses here and there.
-Maybe any of the residents in those few houses here and there saw or heard something. We should ask around.
-Yeah, we will.
Then suddenly, a sprinkling system started, watering the small gardens and flowers at the houses not far from the woods.
-What the... so that was the water he heard...
-Is it? It's broad daylight now, do they always start at night as well?
They asked around, no witnesses. And it was confirmed, the sprinkling systems start at night as well, at around 11PM, for about 30 minutes.
3 days later, 6AM. Linda was walking, going to work, talking on the phone.
-Yes, Mary, I told you, tonight we can go wherever you want, I got a day-off tomorrow so I don't mind! Tell Carly as well, but don't bother call Jessy, she'll be working all day and all night, cause..
She suddenly heard a sound, coming from behind the trees in the woods.
-Sorry, I just thought I heard something. She kept walking and talking, until she heard something again, this time from behind her. She turned around, and saw someone right behind her.
-What the.. AAH! He knocked her out.
The police were still searching the woods every few hours, until they found the dead body of a woman 2 days later, lying in the woods. She was murdered and cut open, her eyes were missing.
-Linda Brandley, 29 years old. Poor girl, was probably going to work early in the morning one of these days, passing near the woods, when she got hit on the head. She was.. a friend of a friend.. She had beautiful eyes, who the hell would take them out?
-I don't know, Tom. But we'll get him, that's what I know.
In the meantime, there was a new arrest brought in at the local police station.
-Brandon Maley. You were one of the people throwing rocks at a local store. Who do you think you are? Do you know you could've hurt someone? Or the costs of what you and your fellas broke?
-Like I give a crap.. they were screaming at us from making noise and trouble on the streets. Fucking jokes.
-Ah, you're with the "P.D.N.", saving lives, donating organs, huh? Said the officer in a sarcastic way.
-Yeah. Got a problem with that, cop?
-Where have you guys been the last 2 years? I though the motion was done.
-Almost, but since someone has been killing and stealing organs, we're back on track. Because that's what some people need, a lesson.
-You scumbag. Who gives you the right to say who gets to live or die?
-Who gives them the right to let people die in hospitals cause they don't have 0 negative blood to receive? Huh?
-So that's the right way? Kill people, save others? People are still dying though.
-Not all. The liver guy survived, didn't he? So still, we mostly win.
-Well, here's your victory. Have fun sleeping in the interrogation room. Plus, you're now a suspect for the murders as well.
-What? Are you serious? I didn't kill nobody.
-Well, you did say some things that can be used against you to consider you an accomplice, it's all recorded.
-This is a fucking joke. Now I really wish I was the one I killed them! I wish the killer teaches you a lesson too you bastard!
The police kept searching through the woods. It would take a long time before they'd find anything new, any clues, or even better, the killer's hideout.

That is all you need. Find who the killer is, find his hideout, decrypt the message found on the piece of paper and last but not least, find out his motive for the murders.

Good luck.

Very nice effort, but some things do not match. First of all, they did check out the houses with the sprinklers nearby, found nothing, heard nothing, so it's highly possible that's not our crime scene. Secondly, do we know if our suspect has the knowledge to perform a "surgery" and remove specefic organs? We need all loose ends!

Possibility of doctors are involved in this crime, they must have deal with P.D.N & indeed doctors would have knowledge about surgery if they are surgeon.

I think Dr. Ryan Mudlock was kidnapped 8 years ago by the "People's Donations Motion". If he was 86 when he disappeared, then his age today would be 94 and normally he's supposed to be dead at this age. However, since he was known for his medical improvements in methods to prolong life, I think he might be still alive today. I also think that he is the one who took out the liver from the first victim, and the eyes from the other victim, since this job requires a doctor and the encrypted message also proves this.
The decrypted message gives us this:
"organs needed list
stomach
liver
pancreas
eyes

mdlck.r"

I think mdlck.r refers to the name of the doctor "Ryan Mudlock", but in a somehow encrypted way (writing the second name first, and removing few letters). However, I don't think that an old man at the age of 94 have the required strength to knock out a guy with a hit or even a girl, therefore I think that someone was with him and helped him. Probably Brandon Maley.
I believe that "Ryan Mudlock" was forced to do what he did, and he was forced to do that somehow by the chairman of the P.D.M movement, since I believe that  a scientist who is known for developing methods to prolong life, would never go on killing people. So I think that they should arrest the chairman.
but I'm wondering why it took them 8 years to do that, and why they kept the doctor kidnapped for 8 years before they started murdering people and taking their organs! Maybe because he was developing methods to prolong life, and that would mean less people dying and therefore less organs donated, which would definitely be a financial crisis for the P.D.M chairman :D I'm not sure about that.

City, there's the key to your answer, "why did they wait 8 years". Your theories are great, but you guys are not combining clues and timelines right. There is not much to show  Brandon is really a suspect or has any medical experience, and the PDM went bankrupt very recently!!! We have 2 main suspects. Who would have the biggest motive? Someone who runs a motion or someone who is old and dying?

now that we think of it.. I could be the killer

it's not the dying old man, he's 86.

no way you cant out run this.

it's brandon

It's really difficult for me to be sure of what exactly happened. First off, the chairman of the P.D.M was lying when he said that between 10 and 12 PM he was watching "The Walking Dead", because the re-run starts at 12. I think that would be a valid reason to arrest him.
I have a theory in mind, but I need an answer to this first: Were there any cases of missing people over the past 8 years in that area who were not found?

Ok, Here is what I think. There are 2 ppl involved here. 1 is the doctor that went missing 8 years ago, and the other one is the PDM chairman.
What we need from the first victim is the water he heard, and these 2 lines:
"being near the cabin, but no time to reach it".

The PDM chairman obviouslt wasnt watching the TWD re-run because it started on 12PM (the conversation between dorctors confirms this).

Brandon doesnt even have a clue whats happening, even if he is the killer, we have no evidence whatsoever, so im crossing him out.

The "encrypted" message that they found, basically, mdlck.r refers to the doctor who disappeared 8 years ago, and the rest are organs.
Let's get back to those 2 lines (well, there is only 1). Probably the cabin was the place where the surgery would take place. PDM chairman knocked out the victim, and the doctor was going to perform the surgery, since he didnt have much strength to do all himself. From that line, I can guess that something didnt go as planned, so, unlike the woman, they let the first victim escape on purpose.

I think that PDM chairman and the Doctor are the killers.

The police, interrogating the Brandon guy.

P.S. About you all agreeing that he couldn't have been watching the TWD re-run, we are not exactly sure about the time it starts, in the dialogue between the doctors one of them says that it has started and he has missed some already, so it does start before 12 o'clock. Keep that in mind ;)

Ok, apart from what I said just 1 post above, Id say that Brandon was the killer. He knew that 2 ppl got murdered (well, 1 survived), and he know that one of them survived.
Anyway, I will have to get through this one more time later and make a final decision.
