Case #5 - The Ghost Ship
Plot: An Italian cruise ship called "Bella Fortuna" sets sail in 1988 from Italy to America, but during the trip it loses all contact and disappears from all radars, never to be found since.  21 years later, in 2009, a cargo ship in the middle of Pacific picks up a transmission from nearby, which says "This is Bella Fortuna, I need help, everyone is dead!"

Quote
Porto di Napoli, Italy, April 12th, 1988.
-I motori sono pronti, Capitano.(The engines are ready, Captain)
-Bene, Jem.(Good, Jem) Andiamo allora.(Let us go then)
The ship "Bella Fortuna"(Good Luck), set sail from Napoli's port to America. It had thousands of people on it, it was a tremendous, blue ship that took 2 years to build. People were saying goodbye to family, for many of them it would take a long time before they saw each other again, or probably never, considering what was about to come.
Somewhere in Pacific, 1AM, 2009.
A cargo ship was travelling from USA back to Europe, when the communications officer picked up a transmission from nearby. It was a radio, with a lot of static and very hard to hear.
<<Hhh...hello? Hh..ello? Can you hear me?>>
-Yes, we can hear you. This is "Libby", cargo ship AT29, I am Robert Brand, what is your issue?
<<This..... this is Bella Fortuna, a cruise ship set to sail from Italy.. to America... I need help... everyone is dead.>>
-Repeat your transmission, there is too much static. Hello? Repeat your transmission! Hello? Hello? All they could hear was static, no more words.
-Did he say Bella Fortuna? Isn't that the ship they've been looking for 20 years now?
-Yeah... why is it transmitting in 2009? And why is.. everyone dead?
2 hours later, after a lot of searching and usage of the radar, they picked up a nearby signal. It was getting rainy, there was a storm coming. They saw a big ship from far away, no lights, no form of life.
-Hey, this green ship must be it. They approached it, tried throwing ropes and using planks to get on the ship.

Bella Fortuna, April 13th, 1988.
There was a beautiful, romantic music playing on the ship, everyone was outside, dancing. The sailors were keeping an eye around. The Captain next to the wheel, watching the dark horizon full of starts.
It was a quiet, beautiful night. The ship was full of couples, families.. many of them Italian, some others from other European countries, and few people were going back to America, the were going back home.
2 men were sitting on a bench on the outter deck, talking.
-Essi sono portatori di alcune merci. Il trasferimento di alcuni gas tossici in America, illegalmente.(They are bearing some cargo. Transfering a toxic gas in America, illegally.)
-Questo รจ il nostro biglietto.(This is our ticket.)
Italy had an agreement with certain american territories to provide them with chemical warfare, including large toxic gas capsules. This, of course, would be under the table.
-Chiamare il resto dei ragazzi e meet me al piano di sotto.(Call the rest of the boys and meet me downstairs.)
They went downstairs, to the engine room. There were 2 sailors, probably the mechanics, watching the controls for any error. They sneaked behind them and strangled them with a couple of wires. They stopped the engines, and headed to the storage rooms.
-Mettere il vostro maschere su.(Put your masks on.) They put their oxygen masks on, and turned the capsules' valves, unleashing the gas. Less than an hour later, everyone was lying on the floor, their skin was white. They were dead, families, young and old people, crew, captain, all of them, with a face of terror. A long, horrible death.
They robbed all the bodies, made lots of money. They didn't finish their job though, as there was a storm coming, and they had to leave with the boat immediately. Their leader went next to the captain's dead body.
-Here you go, Capitano. The man who killed you and your ship. I'll be back, to finish what I started. He wrote "D.P." on a piece of paper and put it in the captain's pocket.
The cargo ship's crew got on the ship. It was an old, rusty ship, with no sign of life. The storm was now very strong.
-Is this the ship that called us?
-I think so. I mean, did you see any other ship nearby? But still, the ship that called us shouldn't even exist at this time, so let's take a look.
The cargo ship was on the left side of this ship. One of the crew members walked on the deck towards the right side, and saw a research boat next to the ship.
-Hey, guys. Someone's here already. They saw the researcher from the deck, it looked empty. They kept walking on the ship, on the outter deck, looking for any people.
-Hello, hellooo! They kept walking around, when Robert found a knife, a rusty, old knife, that was probably on the ship for a very long time. It had some blood on it though, but it was almost totally wiped out from the rain. It was next to the iron wall of the ship's inner deck, and the window was broken. He looked through it, and saw the hallway of the medium deck.
There was no sign of life, as if this ship was abandoned long ago. They walked towards the entrances, getting to the inner decks.
-We gotta split up. We're 6, 2 on the top deck, 2 on the middle one and 2 on the bottom deck.
-I am definitelly getting the top deck.
-Don't be a coward Mike.
-Don't be a coward? Have you watched any movies, nigga? Black guys always die first in such creepy places. So hell no, I aint going to the bottom deck to be raped and killed. Be my guest.
They split up. It was really quiet and dark inside, but you could easily hear the strong storm outside, and the rain hitting the semi-broken windows. The guys on the top deck were walking in the dark hallway of the ship.
-Do you realise where we are? Bella Fortuna, one of the most expensive ship in the world, so many rich people were on this ship.. we're rich man, there must be some gold on this ship.. some money..
-Don't get greedy, Sam. We're here only to look for the transmission we received.
-Whatever Paul, whatever, but noone's gonna stop me from becoming rich, mate.
As they were walking, they found a dead man. He was strangled with a wire. The wounds seemed relatively fresh.
-Shit. The ship was moving on the water, making creepy sounds due to it being rusty. The guys at the medium deck, Drake and Nick, were looking around, checking rooms for any clues. They found a woman, heavily injured.
-Hey, hey, can you hear me? Are you ok? She opened her eyes, she was bleeding from multiple places.
-Ahhh, ahhh, it hurts!
-What happened?
-We.. picked up a transmission, she said, almost breathless. It was from an old ship.. Bella Fortuna... we wanted to check it out, but they.. I.. I got stabbed..Don't.. don't.. trust.. she died, before finishing her sentence.
They kept walking on the deck, when they saw 2 old men.
-Hey, you! They approached them.
-Hey, who are you? They talked to them and explained each other.
-I'm Jeremy Daniels and this is Parker Poderi, we're from the research team of the USA coastguard, we patrol the seas quite often just like many other boats, and we picked up this transmission. We got on board, all 4 of us, but later on I got lost, then I found Parker and it turned out we had all lost each other.
-We found a woman, she was killed, she was one of yours.
-Oh god, Helen? Oh no, take me to her, said Jeremy.
Nick and Jeremy started walking back towards the dead woman, and Drake stayed with Parker to look around and wait for them. Before leaving, Nick turned around at Drake.
-Hey, Drake. But both guys(Drake and Parker) looked at him.
-Oh, sorry, I though you called me, said Parker. Drake's my second name, they used to call me that maany years ago, when I was at my 30s.
-No worries. Anyway, Drake, if you see or need anything, call me on the radio.
The guys at the bottom deck found the radio room. It had a morse AM transmitter, and an old radio. They tried using it, but it wasn't working, it was dead.
-Hmmm, strange, I remember reading the report about this ship's radio, I'm almost sure it was a "Sugiyama F850", not this one.
Suddenly, they heard some static coming from the radio.
-How the hell?
<<....Khhhhhh(static)...Khhhhh..>>
-Hello? Hello? Who's there? Can you hear me? Said one of the crew members using the ship's-assumed to be dead-radio.
<<Khhhh...Hhh...hello? Pronto? Hh..ello? Can you hear me?>>
-Yes we can hear you.
Then, there was music heard in the radio. Romantic, calming music.
-Hello, hello, can you still hear me? Sir?
The music was playing through the radio, while the 2 crew members were looking at each other, confused. Then, while the music was still playing, they heard a little girl.
<<...daddy, what is this green thing in the air?..>>, few seconds later, they heard some screams, <<..AAAhhhh! Noo!...>>
-HELLO? Hello, can you hear me, what's happening! Hello, hello??? The radio was dead again.
-What the hell is going on! They dumped the radio and started running towards the exit of the hallway. They called the rest of the crew through the radio. Few minutes later, almost everyone was on the outter deck of the ship, including Jeremy and Parker, but Drake was missing.
-Parker, where's Drake?
-He left me, he said he was gonna come outside, he was too nervous, so I kept looking by myself. He said he was gonna call you guys on the radio.
-God damnit!!! They searched for Drake. They found his body, he was dead. Strangled with a wire.
They ran back outside, they all got on the cargo ship, used the radio to call for help from the nearest coastguard or any patrolling boats.
The next day, after the storm was over, the coastguard boats finally managed to find them. They found the dead bodies on the unidentified ship, but the 2 remaining men from the researcher and the crew from the cargo ship were gone. They looked for days, but they never found them.

This can be a very complicated case, with a complex plot that can feel incomplete. This is done on purpose, and you will see why later on. All you need to do is find out what happened on that ship, solve the mystery of Bella Fortuna and bring things to reality, find some facts about the ship and solve this complication.

Solve this strange mystery and you will get an extra bonus of it, getting more of this story and suspense.

I will be assisting with the case, if needed. Good luck.

I have few questions if you can answer them:
1) Is it a normal route for the ships going from Italy to America or vice versa to travel through the Pacific?
2) It's written that after the robbers robbed the dead bodies on the ship, they had to leave with the boat immediately; From where did they get the boat? is it one of the safety boats hanged to the sides of the ship?
3) Can we know from the USA coastguard research team if Jeremy Daniels and Parker Poderi are from Italian origins?
4)The screams that Robert and Mike heard from the radio  "<<..AAAhhhh! Noo!...>>", did it belong to the little girl?
5) When the coast-guard boats arrived at the scene, did they find the cargo ship and the researcher? or they only found the green ship?

1)Yes, there's no issue about the route, it could easily be the Atlantic.
2)It was one of the safety boats, sorry if it was crucial for you that I did not mention it, but it has no importance to the case :)
3)No, we cannot. The information of every crew member are confidential.
4)It was various people, and one of them could've been the girl as well. We do not know.
5)The ship were all there, hence they knew there were crew from the cargo ship missing, because the cargo ship was there. This can imply though that someone could flee with a safety boat from either ship, making this look like noone has left and the crews are the dead bodies on the green ship.

I have 3 more questions:
1) Did the paint on the green ship look fresh? or it looked as if it's been painted 20 years+ ago?
2) Did the coast-guard crew find any skeletons on the ship? did they find any gas tanks?
3) Was the green ship found identified as being the missing Bella Fortuna? because if what I'm thinking is correct, it shouldn't be the same ship.
what else can you tell us about the case? I feel there is something missing.

There's many parts missing, on purpose, but i told you all they found, i wouldn't skip smth so remarkable like bodies or gas tanks lol. Your question are self-explanatory, the ship was old and rusty, it could be either of the things you have in mind, figure it out. Combine the clues, another case where I'm pointing this out, if you have doubts about smth there are clues to either confirm it or deny it :) No more questions :D

After reading this case for many many times, I believe it's missing some critical information that can help solve the case.
All I was able to make up from reading this, is that Parker Poderi and Jeremy Daniels are the same 2 men that were sitting on the outer deck of Bella Fortuna 21 years ago, and that Parker Poderi is the one who went to the captain before leaving the ship, and left a paper with the letters "P.D" on it in his pocket. I also think that after leaving Bella Fortuna on that stormy night, both Parker and Jeremy weren't able to remember the exact location of the ship, and hence they decided to join the US coastguard to help them find it.
About what the 2 guys at the bottom deck were able to hear, I believe it's some kind of recording that was recorded few seconds before the death of all the passengers on Bella Fortuna 21 years ago, and that the green thing in the air that the girl was referring to was the toxic gas that was released in the ship at that time.

well after reading that mystery case and according for what City said :
I believe that the guy who was next to the captain's body is Parker Poderi with the guy Jeremy Daniels
i believe that the research boat that one of the crew members saw was the boat that the killers used 20+ years ago
I think that the knife they found was the one Parker Poderi used to kill the captain because the story says : ''The Captain next to the wheel, watching the dark horizon full of starts.'' which means that the captain was on the ship's inner deck.
I think that Parker killed Drake , the girl's voice and the screaming which were  recorded before the death of the passengers 20+ years ago was used to distract the crew of the cargo ship

The US Martials were working with the coastguard and looking everywhere for the 2 suspects, Jeremy Daniels and Parker Poderi. They are the suspects of the disappeared ship more than 20 years ago, and now once again, suspects for the murders and disappearances of the coastguard officers and the cargo ship's crew. They found a rusty knife on the outter deck, the same knife Robert had found.
-Well, the window is broken, and there's a small blood trail inside. Something must've happened in there and the suspect threw the knife, to look innocent I assume. They found another body, strangled with a wire.
-Who uses wires nowadays, especially if you have just found a knife?
-You do use a wire if it's a very old habbit and you find it easier. What if they indeed had a hand in the other(Bella Fortuna) case? What if it's not the first time they've killed?
-Check the files, what's the 2 suspects' origins?
-Italy, sir.
-Bingo.
-Alright, let's say they indeed are involved in both cases, what happened in this one?
-According to the communication's data, both the cargo and the researcher picked up a transmission. The transmission was corrupted and had too much static so we couldn't get it, but they did, as they were very close. I don't know what it was, but it must've made the suspects think it was Bella Fortuna, and they wanted to get back for some reason, maybe they had left something there, we may never know. But it was never the italian ship, this is another abandoned ship, and both crews must've mistaken it, maybe because of the wild storm and the darkness.
They kept looking all over the Pacific, the coastguard had sent out any manpower and boats they had. They finally found them, not far from the crime scene, fleeing with a boat.
-Hey, you! Stop the boating and put your hands in the air immediately! They turned on their spotlight on them.
The officers got on the boat, searched everywhere. They headed downstairs, and saw the cargo ship's crew, tied up and killed.
-You sick sons of bitches. Take them in.
At the police station, they were being interrogated:
-What happened to Bella Fortuna? You and your friends sabotaged it, didn't you?
-Vaffanculo(F*ck off).
-You killed them all, didn't you?
-We are not talking.
-Where is the ship? You've been looking for it for years, where is it?
-You think that if we had any idea we'd still be here?
-Alright, something easier. What was the transmission you picked up?
-You... you won't believe us.
-Give it a try, we're very open-minded.
-It was Bella Fortuna, a member of the crew, calling out for help. Calling out for help in a ship that has been on the sea for 20 years.
-You expect me to believe that? Are you messing with me you punks?
-This is the truth.
-Alright, that's it. Take them in, give them some time to think about what they've done, and we'll make them tell us the names of their friends and what happened back then, later.
-Noo, it's true! Please, listen to me! said Parker, desperate both about lifetime prison, and about what he had heard on the radio. I was the communications officer, I heard it myself, it's true! We heard them in that old ship as well, a little girl, the radio was dead but..
-Take them in! Enough is enough, you deserve much worse you scumbags! they interrupted them. They took them in cells, the cells they'd serve in for having murdered thousands of people. Noone ever believed their story, about the transmission. They were later transfered to a mental insitute, they were found mentally ill for all those murders and for their story of hearing transmissions from people that had died years ago.
Meanwhile, there was a cargo ship on the Pacific going from America to Asia. It was night, around 12PM, and there seemed to be no other ship nearby.
-Hey, Tom, Tom! I'm getting a transmission.
-Transmission? From where? We haven't seen any ship around for hours.
-I don't know, but it's close. Here, the radar shows something nearby.
-Jack, look around, do you see any ship? Tom shouted at Jack, who was outside, to hear him.
-I don't think I do, Tom. It's very dark and cloudy though, not even the moon is shedding any light on the sea.
The transmission was mostly static, until a voice was heard.
<<Hhh...hello? Hh..ello? Can you hear me?>>
-Yes, yes we can hear you. Can you hear me? Is everything alright?
<<This..... this is Bella Fortuna, a cruise ship set to sail from Italy.. to America... I need help... everyone is dead.>>
