Case #4 - The Torturer
Plot: A serial killer tortures his victims and eventually kills them, while he records the whole process. Investigate the tortures, the crime scenes and put the killer behind bars once and for all.

Quote
Boston, USA, 2011.
It was very dark in an old warehouse in the middle of nowhere. A woman was tied up to a chair, bleeding from multiple cuts, and a camera not far from her, recording.
-P.. please! Please d.. don't kill me. I am sorry, I am so sorry.
There was a man standing next to her, wearing black clothes and a hoodie so that his face was hard to see. He was holding a big knife. He looked at the camera.
-This woman is an example of the many. This woman is a district attorney, she is a part of the system, a part of the national "justice". And this... this is real justice.
He then cut her throat, letting her die within seconds. He then headed towards the camera, and turned it off.
2 days later:
-2 days? 2 fucking days to track down Jessy Rollins, our D.A.? I'm gonna be giving out lots of suspensions. You better all work your asses off till we find the son of a bitch that did this.
-Yes Chief.
There were many officers and detectives on the scene of the crime, watching the camera footage, looking around for any clues. There was blood everywhere, but no fingerprints.
-Well, we got some footprints, probably size 43, but that's all.
-What about the boots? Can we find them based on the print?
-If we're lucky they sell these boots in only 50 stores in the whole state, dead end.
They kept looking around, till they found 2 characters scratched on the wall, probably with a knife. "A.P.". They also found a smoked cigarette, it was "Marlboro".
-Alright, pack it up and let's roll back to the station.
Quote
High Court, 2006.
-Order, order in court! Said the judge to stop the arguements. Miss Rollins, continue.
-Thank you, your honor. As I was saying, Roger Tray raped and shot that poor woman, and the evidence prove this case as well. The fact he knew the victim and they had an arguement on the phone.. his alibi doesn't stand either.
-No, I swear, I didn't do anything, She was a colleague from work, I barely even knew her! I was framed, I swear I didn't do it!!! Then, a man from the audience stood up. It was the defendant's cousin.
-Roger is innocent! Let him go!
-Order in court! Order! Mr.Doson sit down!
-You bitch(talking to D.A. Rollins), you're gonna pay for this, putting an innocent man to jail! I promise you'll pay for this!
-Mr.Doson, last warning, I WILL order your apprehension!
-Go to hell you piece of shit!
-Alright, that is enough. Officer, escort him out and if he continues, hold him in for 24 hours.
The police officer took him outside the court.
-Go out, relax, have a smoke, don't come back in.
-Go to hell, I don't smoke. This isn't over, the system will pay for this!
At the police station, inside the "archives" room, 2 detectives sorting out old cases.
-Oh, I remember this one. Roger Tray, 34 years old from Manhattan, New York. arrested for rape and murder. He got sentenced to lifetime prison, but then 2 years later a fire broke out in state prison and he was one of the prisoners that didn't make it out.
-He was burned alive?
-Yeah, along with 5 other inmates. They later found the 6 bodies, but his body was so burned that they couldn't even indentify it. His cousin swore revenge, but died of cancer some months later.
-Well, that's what such people deserve..
-I'll be honest with you, man. I always had a feeling he didn't do it. But on the other hand, if he didn't, then who did?.... Anyway, our focus is on the attorney's murder, so..
Another detective walked in the room and interrupted the conversation.
-Save your breath, guys, we already have a suspect. Arnold Prescott, 42 years old, sentenced to lifetime prison 3 years ago for the rape and murder of 2 women in the same week. He escaped prison a month ago.
-Oh, good news, we have a suspect, and bad news, he's dangerous and we have no idea where he is.
Quote
State Prison, 2007. Roger Tray was talking on the phone, using the one phonecall he had per day.
-I know you did it. I trusted you, and you raped that poor woman and shot her and you framed me! You better admit what you've done or you're gonna pay! I've already told my cousin, and I'll tell others as well. Everyone will know what you did, you won't escape justice.
The police were patrolling the streets, looking for Arnold Prescott. In the meantime, judge Ronald Taylor woke up in a dark room, tied up to a chair, bleeding from multiple cuts.
-H.. heeelp! Anybody! Can you hear me! Heeeelp! He saw a man near him. Who the hell are you? Your face... why do you look like that?..
The camera was recording.
-You are a judge, you're supposed to bring justice, yet you put an innocent man behind bars 5 years ago. Now there are concequences. He stabbed him on the shoulder.
-AAAh, noo! Please! I am sorry, whoever you are, whatever I did, I am sorry!
-Whoever, I am? He stabbed him on the knee. LOOK AT  ME! Don't you remember me?
-AAAAH! It hurts.. please... I.. I remember you now, you were in the court, a case.. from 2006, right? A.. it was a.. rape, and murder. Look, whatever you want, I'll give you money, lots of money..
-You took the most important thing from me. Now I will do the same to you. He stabbed him on the chest. Few seconds later, the judge was dead.
The killer looked at the camera, hiding his face with a scarf.
-Now this.. this is pure justice. But it's not over, not yet. He smoked a cigarette, threw the rest of it away, and left. The police arrived shortly after.
-Another dead body, and another "system cleaning" from the killer. Another cigarette as well, hmm..
-He probably gets quite nervous so he smokes to calm down.
-I suppose. And the not even the cigarette has some god damn DNA on it, this guy is very careful.
Arnold Prescott was on the run, hiding in the dark streets of New York, having run away from prison. Officers were sweeping the streets. A couple of officers saw him from far away and walked towards him at the alley. He got nervous, started eating a chewing gum, walking away.
-Hey, you! Hold!
He started running away, it was evening, it was getting dark so it was easier for him to evade them. They were approaching him so he pulled out a gun and started shooting everywhere behind him while running. The officers started shooting back. During the shooting, Arnold managed to injure one of the officers and ran away.
-Officer down, I repeat, officer down! Where is the god damn backup!
He managed to escape. Not long ago, he received a call.
-Who is it? What the.. how is it possible? Listen, I am sorry man... Can we talk? I need your help, and I will explain everything... I've been running since I escaped, they're always on my tracks. Where are you? Alright, I am coming.
1 week later, they finally found Arnold. He was in an appartment in Manhattan, hiding. When they burst in the appartment he was on the couch stabbed with a knife on his chest. They checked it for prints, it only had his on it. There was also another cigarette next to his body.
-Looks like a suicide.
-Yeah, probably couldn't take it anymore, most criminals would rather die than go back to that shithole we call state prison.
They searched his body, he had a gun. He also had a chewing gum on his pocket, and a few dollars.
-Well, guess he finished the job for us.

This is all you need for now. Find out what happened, support it with clues, and put this case to an end. It is understandable that this might be a complicated case, but there are some crucial clues to help you solve this case without much of an effort.

Good luck!

I believe that Roger Tray was a friend of Arnold Prescott (evidence: "I trusted you"). Arnold was responsible for the rape and murder of a woman in 2006, and somehow he managed to put it on Rogers back. Roger was sentenced a lifetime in jail for something that he didn't do. The phone call that Roger conducted in 2007 was with Arnold Prescott. When a fire broke in the prison, Roger managed to escape somehow, but he got severely burnt from the fire. I don't really know who that burnt body belongs to, but I'm sure it's not Rogers. After he escaped from prison, Roger decided to revenge from all those who oppressed him, in-fact he decided to revenge from the whole justice system. He killed the district attorney, and wrote the letters "A.P" on the wall in order to deceive the police into thinking that Arnold Prescott was the killer. He then killed the judge Ronald Taylor(evidence: "Your face... why do you look like that?..",which shows that the judge was looking at a person with a distorted/abnormal face). Finally, he called Arnold Prescott (evidence: "Who is it? What the.. how is it possible? Listen, I am sorry man... Can we talk?", which shows that Arnold was surprised to hear the voice of the person calling him, which can only be Roger Tray, because he was supposed to be dead), he then went to Arnold's place and killed him. The reason no finger prints were found in all the crimes, was because Rogers hands were burnt from the fire, which completely erased his fingerprints.

This means the woman already knew the man, otherwise she had nothing to apologise for

Quote

Idk why I took this but this guy "Mr.Doson" isnt the killer as he doesnt smoke

A.P

Roger knew the raper, and he mentions 'justice' same way as the killer does.

Quote

5 years ago was the time Tray got sentenced.

-AAAAH! It hurts.. please... I.. I remember you now, you were in the court, a case.. from 2006, right? A.. it was a.. rape, and murder. Look, whatever you want, I'll give you money, lots of money..
And here we know that it was Tray

Life, he took his life

Quote
-I suppose. And the not even the cigarette has some god damn DNA on it, this guy is very careful.
I believe he is burned so bad that it had melted his face (thus his lips)

Quote
He got nervous, started eating a chewing gum, walking away.
Unlike the killer, Arnold didnt smoke, but he would eat a chewing gum.

Quote
-Who is it? What the.. how is it possible? Listen, I am sorry man... Can we talk? I need your help, and I will explain everything... I've been running since I escaped, they're always on my tracks. Where are you? Alright, I am coming.
So Arnold knew the caller, he seems quite surprised, maybe it was Tray? He was going somewhere.

Quote
1 week later, they finally found Arnold. He was in an appartment in Manhattan, hiding. When they burst in the appartment he was on the couch stabbed with a knife on his chest. They checked it for prints, it only had his on it. There was also another cigarette next to his body.
He was in the place Tray told him to go during the phone call, Tray got his fingers burned so bad that there were no fingerprints of him (I've also burnt my hand that bad and I didnt have fingerprints for 1 year  :D, not even joking). After all, Arnold didnt escape from justice.

The person he was calling back in 2007 was A.P, where he threatened him. After the fire, they couldnt identify his body, which means that we dont know whether it was Trays body or not.
Thats where he wanted revenge, 1 at a time. First it was D.A. Rollins, who his cousin threatened, then the judge, and Arnold at the end.
He met Arnold at the appartment, where he killed him and then smoked.

So the killer is Tray, Roger Tray.

My suspect is Roger Tray.

Arnold Prescott should be the one who raped and shot the woman. He was sentenced to lifetime prison 3 years ago for the rape and murder of 2 women in the same week, which indicates that he was weirdly addicted to women rape and murder. Therefore, at State Prison, Roger Tray must be talking to Arnold in phone saying "I know you did it. I trusted you, and you raped that poor woman and shot her and you framed me! You better admit what you've done or you're gonna pay!"

Roger Tray must have escaped somehow when the fire broke out in state prison. It was mentioned that Roger's body was so burned that they couldn't even indentify it, which opened  the chance of him being alive. Also, When judge Ronald Taylor was abducted, he said, " I remember you now, you were in the court, a case.. from 2006, right? A.. it was a.. rape, and murder." Ronald's statement leaves  no options than Roger Tray being the abductor because there were only two people mentioned in the case from 2006, viz. Roger  and his cousin Mr.Doson, but Doson  died of cancer some months later. Additionally, When Arnold Prescott was able to make the escape from the police, he received the call and said"Who is it? What the.. how is it possible? Listen, I am sorry man..Can we talk? I need your help, and I will explain everything... ." This call must be from Roger Tray because Arnold could not believe that Roger was alive and he must be apologizing for framing Roger in case 2006 when he said "Listen, I am sorry man..." .And 1 week later, Roger killed Arnold in an apartment in Manhattan.

Hence Roger took revenge by killing Jessy Rollins and Ronald Taylor, who were the attorney and judge in Roger's case and who did injustice to Roger, and finally  Arnold Prescott, who framed him.
Acknowledge your worth.

Time is up, I left it open for quite a while, but this is it :)

Quote
The police started searching the streets again, having found their final suspect. They supposed the jurors of that trial back in 2006 were in danger as well, and they were right. A man was walking towards his house at night, in New York, when a man with black clothes approached him from behind. That's when the cops came out.
-Hey! Stop!
The man ran away, but they had surrounded the area.
-Hello Roger. Long time. They removed his hood, he had burn marks everywhere from that prison fire.
-You know, it was hard putting it all together, thinking that you were dead, but you actually escaped that fire, didn't you? You wanted revenge for what Arnold did to you, you were probably friends, but deep inside he was a criminal. He raped and murdered that woman back in 2006, and framed you for it. However, his M.O. was shooting his victims. Yours was stabbing them, plus, the cigarettes we found at the crime scene, these clues eventually made it obvious. However, you also wanted revenge for the justice system, from the D.A., the judge and the jury that put you behind bars. You killed them and framed Arnold. You probably even put some bigger boots on his size it make everything obvious it was him, the name initials on the wall, the footprints... Then you called Arnold to meet at your old appartment, killed him and made it look like a suicide. It was almost perfect.
-They took my life from me, it was not fair, I didn't deserve this.
-You know what? You're right.. but what you did was still wrong.
-Roger Tray, you're under arrest for multiple accounts of murder. You have the right to remain silent. Everything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. You have the right to an attorney...
The case was closed. The same 2 detectives that were in the archives talking about the story of Roger Tray were now putting this case next to his old one.
-Amazing, isn't it?
-What?
-What a mistake from the justice system can do to someone.
-Come on, man, it was noone's fault he was born a killer.
-No, he was not born a killer, we made him. An innocent man was put in prison for something he didn't do and returned a killer. We turned him into a killer, he wasn't. Imagine how many times this could've happened before, how many innocent people might be in that hell.
Well done, you're solved yet another case. But there's more to come :)
