[ Rawr+ Tuts ] Becoming a coder
« on: September 12, 2011, 07:40:44 pm »
I do code. It has came many times into that, Im getting questions : How to, What to do and so on.

In this topic I will introduce you into area of coding. Please keep in mind, this topic is supposed to introduce you into coding, not learning you how to code.

The very first step to become a coder is this.
Ask yourself if you really want to become a coder. This isn't a thing that you just "hobby off" on your free-time and you ain't gonna just google tutorials and become a skilled coder over night. It simply aint going like that. Coding requieres years of work, till you master the coding completely.

Oh and why did I ask you to question yourself about becoming a coder? For simple reason, This is a time-waste and only "chosen ones" got it what it takes to become a coder. I really recommend going out @ pub, If you feel like it, because this is a time-waste and you really need to be strongly and sure decided, you want to become a coder.

Well, Coding requieres inteligence. We ain't gonna lie. If the counts weren't your strongest side, I don't wanna rip you off, but it requieres you to least know :

  • decent math
  • decent english
  • will to learn
  • no life

Well let's start off. I will blast you off from start already with saying : You ain't gonna make any even decent looking program in closest month It ain't gonna be like, What you do? Just code in some language and make programs. It's simply not like that

You might be into coding, like I'm all rushing into thisl. But you'll very soon believe this is wrong. This requieres tons of patience, and will to continue, even though every each of us, myself included, had a time being when they were sick of it.

Well Yeah. You may have noticed, I've been warning you several times, how dumb coding is. To be honest, yes it is. It's just, Coding isn't for anyone. You really need  a strong will and 99/100 won't succeed. You appeareantly need brain for this. But don't be too afraid, I never was any good-noted in school by subjects - not saying im completely brain-washed, but it's all about improving. I have worked hard on becoming a coder.

Well to start off, I'm saying for one last time. Really take a deep guess, If you want to become coder.
If yes, then it's time to begin.

So, Where do we begin?
We don't begin anywhere, We don't end anywhere. Coding is endless. The first question what comes in your mind is, "Where should I start. I don't know anything about coding". Well, I reply with "really unexpected" answer, I also didn't. You just have to learn.

You may have also wondered, what the coding really is. It's a process, where you input numerous guide lines into computer, that are under logical construction,  that is computer able to execute. Coding doesn't go like, You write a code what comes into your mind. Coding goes like you go from start to end (or if you want, from base-point A to base-point B [with mid-stages])

Languages.

This is the word of being. Languages are all around the world. There isn't any specific language that has computer usage. Language also isn't "built into" computer. It's something you can learn the computer. That's also the hardest thing in coding.

You can't do a command : Dear computer, Write to all users who open this program : Hello
Unfortunately coding is hard, as you're learning computer how to make the program, and the computer speaks only very limited information given, you have to guide it and learn it. (nuff said)

Example text (in C++) would look like

Code: [Select]
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;

int main()

{
  cout << "Hello world\\\\n";

  system("PAUSE");

}

return 0;

The code looks pretty horrible, huh? Not even mentioning this is only writing ONE SIMPLE TEXT, Saying "Hello world." Nothing less, Nothing more.

__

So you're probobly saying : Well, it's such a maze those codes, but I believe i will learn the languages after a time being.

Well I can do nothing more than reply laughing : No you won't.

The are just too many languges for a lifetime, for a millenium to be learned.
But, There are some languages, what are used the most.

Well to get back to the point,l, so which language should you learn (first)?
Many (mostly non-programmers) will say C++. I simply cant dis-agree more. I have started up with C++ and I was mistaken. I'll say you should learn C (first). I'm explaining why below, in following sentences.

Language C. Is just well. Historical language, also nick-named by some of coders : "The ancient language", whilist C++ is a master-set of C. It has reasons to be called the "++ Language" as it  improves on difficulity of the language. Yes, C++ is the best language for coding so far. But as in soccer, You won't play in Barcelona after you signed up into football academy, so in coding you won't be able to use a super-set language straight away.

There are many other and also very simplier languages (Pascal, Basic, C#). But, these are just the languages you should not learn at all costs. Simply a fail languages, that just don't deserve to be learned, unless you're bored too much and have every language mastered.

For the learning of coding, your basic language program will look sick compared to your black-and-white c console application. But if you learn coding, You will understand basic is ground-made on design, not on making programs.

So, Try to beware learning from languages : Basic, C# and so on.

So, list of languages you should learn?

C, C++, HTML, XHTML, Java, (Pawn)

Sidenotes : I'm not sure if you have noticed, If yuo aren't bored of reading already, that It's recommended learning, like a older and simplier style of language into a master one - modern one.

C -> C++
HTML -> XHTML

Pawn is not a much of usefull language, It's more of a side language, that you will like to learn, Because some of things for games are actually scripted in pawn. (Example  : You can script your own counter-strike plugin in pawn)

Anyways, I went offtopic

So, What you should do?

Download : Dev-C++, Visual Studio C++ (release year doesn't matter), Quincy (pawn studio),

You may have noticed, That there hasn't been any Dev-C or Visual Studio C posted as downloadable. It's because, the new-age programs speak both C++ and C, so you can code in these programs using C.

Though if you're looking for C program only (they are old, but still nice and usable) use MISRA C.

To download click [CLICK HERE]

Coding is hard, But it's worth learning. It becomes fun, after a tough time learning. Believe me, there's always a light in the end of the tunnel..

Hope you enjoyed the tutorial and good luck future coders

Regards

Rawr+

people that know about c++, suggest to start off with c++ instead of c coz c++ includes c and learning c at the start - waste of time and its useless.

No it isnt.I have said.C++ is a master set of C.You can start with C++ straight away, but you can learn the basics first.It's like, C is simplified version of C++. You can't started with intermediate difficulity of coding straight away spangals. When I began coding, C++ took me 4 months to learn pretty good. C about 1 - 2.

ofc if the person who starts learning it has no idea about any kind of programming then ye, they might have to start with C, but if the person has experience with php or any other programming then i dont think it's a problem to start with C++

A question RAWR, Amxx plugins can be made with JAVA ?And I dunno much in amxx plugins, I just read some tutorials and the Amxx developer is a friend of mine, Emp. these are some of things I know,When you want to know what Modules the plugin is using you check the top of the script (.sma) and see , if it was #include <cstrike> then it use cstrike module , if it was hamsandwish then its hamsandwish and so on :) , so this would be useful if you having a problem and tried everything just check if you got the modules, some installers miss the geoip which locate where your from , and miss hamsandwish if your downloading the cstrike addson only..And for rights, like example you want the plugin to work for immunity only and it the original plugin runs for kick only, you search for ADMIN_KICK and replace it with ADMIN_IMMUNITY and so on.-Killerftw

AMXX - Counterstrike plugins are made from Pawn language.About #includes.Includes is a self-declare command. It's just. What you include depends on the plugin style you wanna do.Ofcourse you ain't gonna include iostream as console application into a amx plugin.What it goes about .amxx and .sma.amnxx is a plugin fiile, that can be used..sma is modificational-possible file, also commonly used for people to view code.

Yes there's the breaking part.I went exactly, but I mean really exactly the same Turk32.I was 14 (actually)I went like, Oh well. I know some things "that and there" so why not to learn something for future (and maybe something for my future job).So like a total numbut i googled : C++ Tutorials. It popped me up with page, where was 9x page saying bunch of codes I didn't have clue of. I didn't have that well english level ( I can't say it was any bad, but still not as decent as nowdays ) so as everyone else i just copyed code and learned things. After a bit of killing myself thinking of how the codes work I realised the most basic functions such as outputs, inputs, strings, floats and etc.When it came to api / win coding. I was completely lost. Paradoxly, I'm a clear player though, where I actually really learned coding was one hacking site making coding courses. I learned it from there. (I did also hack back then, though I stopped with it a while ago [ years ] ). So, what's my point of this topic? I don't really know, I just felt like expressing how it began at my coding past.

i rent a book from the library, for C etc. it was in dutch so it's easier. but after 10 pages I gave up.it was 4 years ago though. i might consider to rent it again. maybe i'll understand it now :Pbut it told me to download visuel basic studio ( or sth like that, i don't remember) and it told me to start coding, it contained some tutorials how to make programs etc.
