D00M cs 1.6 Series - Managing a cs 1.6 server
« on: June 12, 2015, 01:39:07 am »
Some people just make servers without a knowledge of managing THEM! DAYYYMNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.

In this tutorial we will go thro some EASY ways of managing a cs 1.6 server and managing it efficiently.

Security
Security is very important in a cs 1.6 server as many people trust you with their personal stuff, IP's etc.

How can I improve security?
First and known thing is to add well protected passwords for admins, when they've added and they want to go play on another server ask them to remove the setinfo before connecting as it can be fetched by that.

Also having the server be steam-only makes it pretty much 100% secure, but many make it non-steam so yea.

REMOVE THE GADDAMIT RCON PASSWOOOOOOOOOOOORD. You do NOT need rcon password at all, just disable it at server.cfg by just removing the password, or if it is a really MUST-HAVE thingy please use like 900000 million letters, numbers in it.

Activity & support
You may not realize this now but having active admin team is pretty big part of the server, as the server starts from the beginning there will be BUNCH of cheaters which have not been banned and active friendly team is always a huge bonus.

A tip I am going to give you is to have a team of administrativies who has enjoy working together and has no grudges to eachother. Also be friendly even someone has a kid voice or talks "veri funni engrish"

Something cool broken?
If a plugin you've installed causes problems and it is very cool don't throw it away immediatly, people usually think you need to be pawn guru to fix these problems, well guess what.. YOU DON'T NEED TO BE!!

In plugins.ini at your plugin name add debug next to it like this "doomsplugin.amxx debug" then run the server normally and normally till the problem occurs again and check the logs, and please READ THE LOGS don't just copy-paste them anywhere, usually the answer how to fix it is within the logfile itself, just read boy READDDD!

Also having something unique in your server attracts players, or just.. boost  8)

Thanks for reading!

I mentioned the free methods, HLDS should not have any problem from the start.

There is no free server with no money  :D
And there are some free anti server ddos and VPS anti ddos
Oh, sth else u should add to ur topic:
How to find problem/crash when u get nothing.
1- Open FTP
2- Sort by Modified Date
3- Manually check files that have been updated recently

Also, if your server gets crashed when you start it, try deleting custom.hpk in cstrike

Ps: Ur signature freaked me out at 250% zoom srsly.  :D

I've specified where to find the log files, also there's no "free anti-ddos" programs there, there's  anti-dos programs which cost pretty much ( the good ones ) and that doesn't stop DDoS' only DoS and blocks the packet.

This is how to manage one not how to fix a server when it is starting up, there can be many reasons why a server would not start so I let it out and people can contact support section.
