CS:GO Suggestion ;)
« on: August 22, 2014, 03:36:25 am »
Since we'll be opening brand new CS:GO servers with that I've came up with an idea to start up a CS:GO 1vs1 / 5vs5 tournament. With the announcement of that tournament we could open up a CS:GO AIM / DM / FFA DM server (one or two should do) and "train" there. I'm pretty sure if we had some decent prizes people would take it seriously and actually practice. From there we can maybe start a 5vs5 tournament with people mixing up or members creating their own teams / clans. Open a 16 slotted server with "MM" like conditions (config etc.) and keep the server clean & sorted.

TL;DR

- Start a CS:GO 1vs1 tournament
- Open up either AIM / DM / FFA DM server (2 max)
- Think about 5vs5 tournament (create a poll thread to see what people think)
- Open up a MM like Pub server that is looked after and problem-free

It's a nice suggestion and all, but I do believe it is a bit early to get too excited about this. For me personally the reason is or rather a question: "How Ambrosia can move on to other games, while the game it is based on has constant problems?" What I mean by this, the quality of our DD2 currently is at its lowest stage in years gone by and if we are looking for quality gaming, we should focus on fixing the servers first which are our main target and then open new games such as CS:GO.

I also personally believe that CS:GO would be a great addition and even I have suggested to shut down all servers apart from the 3 most active ones and open CS:GO servers. But when I think about it, it would rather be a move of desperation to save something that is going downhill like a speeding train.

On a second thought, your suggestion is great and I wouldn't expect anything less than what you said due to CS:GO being in competitive level, I feel like it has a great chance of success if done properly, but as I said, the performance of our servers on CS 1.6 is rubbish comparing to few years ago. Even tho the argument is the game is dead and everyone is starting to give up on the game itself, it is not entirely true. The game is still played by lots of people, there are full servers in other communities and this community was based on CS 1.6, it should contain and be the main focus until the game indeed dies.

Yeah I agree Sami..I would only leave dd2 and some other server..But dd2 is just handled people who has no clue how server is running. Tony's plugin for dd2 is scheisse and please it don't even have stable map cycle.. You might get some old school cs maps  :D

Gaming as is best..you can change those marketing words.. To be honest none cares stats what you have now..they care only top15 me and simple commands. Example one loyal admin ask for me put up simple classic server without lag..
This just shows how badly servers are running here.

Thank you lads for your opinions.

@Jailbreak I understand that Ambrosia is a well known 1.6 community and I do also wish luck to the servers although we can't sit and do nothing, we've got to plan ahead. We need to look at other great CS:GO communities and strive for servers better than those. I didn't suggest to close all servers and immediately start with GO. We need to begin blending GO in otherwise we'll lose current players that wishing to get better and want to get more involved in the game. I'm not saying that I'll leave if we don't get the desired servers but more and more of us are moving onto that game. What is needed? Fully recover servers like DD2 and make them bug-free. Fully listen to its players in order to make it good. I understand that not everyone can be made happy at the same time but if someone is going to finally start something (that can be seen by the players and the public) then I assume we would bring back the good old dd2 server that everyone was talking about back in the days. With that comes time invested which in my opinion will be spent and still provide nothing good. Although you can still try, I'm not a 1.6 player anymore so it doesn't really bother me but instead we could be learning how to code and stuff for other games.

There is a good bunch of us to start such tournament and I volunteer to make it happen since I believe that it will be a good start in opening CS:GO servers, here in Ambrosia. One or two servers is not going do too much harm I suppose ;)

@Life is dream for wise ones. Talking about managing the server. I believe that we had a few guys who tried their best to make the best server changes but some of them didn't work out and came out as a flop so they've decided to give up. I reckon we shall start the server blank and let the players of that server suggest plugins and let H@ and H@@ think it through. We're after players' happiness and enjoyment after all so the best I can suggest is to listen to them carefully. We need someone who doesn't get frustrated and gives up too fast with things as I think 1.6 require quite a lot of patience and work put at this stage where the game is on the edge of downfall. Nevertheless, as I've said, best of luck in regaining the desired respect for a great server that dd2 only once was but for me it's a waste of time unfortunately.

I want to say that this suggestion would be nice as it advertises the dm server we have. Only problem atm is the pug server we have (yaya nobody knows about it yet) is not problem free, it can be maintained if an admin is online but without an admin it is kind of impossible to do a 1v1
