Just a small message to Ambrosians
« on: January 30, 2018, 10:55:07 pm »
Hello Ambrosians,

I have the feeling that its time to talk a bit of what is happening here around and what i hear. Well let me start i was arguing today with multiple people when it comes to rules in Ambrosia. I would like to explain my self why there are rules because most of the players or members don't understand. Well basically the rules are here to make sure everybody speaks the same language so we can understand eachother we respect your language your country and your religion, but we just want to make sure that everything is correct.

Because we never know if you speak in another language what you are saying, if you are insulting or swearing someone. Rules are not here to block you of speaking you have the freedom of speach the only thing we ask is not to be rude not to use programms that gives you advantage. We are not asking to much we are asking things that are logic. I am not sure that some people understand that.

Other then that @Ed  and I we are trying our best to make people happy creating projects doing different stuff we will move do different gaming mods we are trying to hear all suggestions. But when i hear that we are ignoring people wich is totally not true we are active a personal message even if we answer you after a few days that means that we are busy with something more important in Ambrosia. Like i always said before we can not please everybody but we try to please the majority.

We closed cs 1.6 server but we still gave the chance so people can open community servers wich means those members who wich to manage or create their own server well Ambrosia will provide it. We are trying even tho in certain things we are not obligated too but we are still allowing and doing it.

I would like that some members or players start to appreciate our work here in Ambrosia instand of putting our morals down. Because believe me sometimes i ask my self why i am doing this? Its because i love this community and so does Ed and many members of this community. I love to play with different people meet new people from different countrys and cultures. That's whats the beauty of Ambrosia we have people from all around the wolrd.

I am gone speak for my self now, i do have my life  my job. But i will tell you one thing even when i am eating or doing something in my work  or even in my toilet i take my phone so i don't miss anything if people need help or anything.

Please try to appreciate also the work we do, because when you do that will motivate all our staff not only ed and me. It will motivate them to do more stuff in Ambrosia bring more new things. Because in the end of the day if we get attacked every single time we take a decision from a few people our morals goes down.

Yes we do changes yes we bring new things even if you dont like them at least wait a few weeks before judging maybe its just because your environnement changed and that you dont feel comfortable but sooner or later you will get used to it.

This is my feelings today i got so if you want to express your self don't hesitat but please don't be rude.

I hope you all understand my point of veiw on this.
And thank you for reading.

Best Regards,
~RoN

I have known Ron for a long time. Ed maybe not so much, but I've got to know him through our chats too. They really want the best for this community, pay and work their asses off to make everything we, the players, ask. What we do in return though is always end up causing trouble in one way or another, instead of trying to help. The decisions they take are always for the best, they have more experience than most of us do, and afterall they are the bosses, like it or not. So you're either with them, help them and respect them, or against them, so simply walk away.

Look ron. I know i am not the best placed to give morals or anything but 1 thing is for sure. IRL or in virtual life when u take responsabilities you need to take decisions. These decisions will NEVER  be aproved by EVERYONE. You just cant expect everyone to share the same opinion as you do. OFC excluding the rules. since everyone have to abide them. anyway. You cannot just go and let your moral down because of some people who doesnt share your opinion. I once saw a post 2 people standing face to face, Between them was a number. One of them said it was a 6 and the other said it was a 9. If u are right doesnt mean the one who disagrees you is wrong.
On the other hand. If you wanna be part of this community there is a hierarchy or whatever u call it. People have to respect that as well.
For example. You closed jailbreak. I was the first guy to disagree with it. But as andrew said on the shoutbox there is some manners that needs to be respected. Did i do a drama about it? No.
But what happened in the shoutbox today reminded me of some old "suggestions" which turned into drama, powerhunger, ingratitude etc...
Come on we all know what thread we are talking bout.

Anyway what im trying to say is that u cant always please everyone. But the thing you can do is go for what you believe in.

Cheers and keep up the good work. :D

Don't let anyone bring you down RoN. All the hard work, time and money that you and Eros put into this community is highly appreciated. All the staff members that you chose and the decisions that you took are in place. Pleasing everyone is impossible. If you were not working properly, Ambrosia wouldn't have lasted until today.

Ron, you are so true in saying all those phrases.

English Only and No Swearing/Insulting are the best rules that I have ever seen in gaming communities. English only rule is aiding us to make friends from all over the world coz we can understand each other. Similarly, Swearing/Insulting rule is maintaining the dignity of ambrosia, proving that there is a room for decency even in the gaming world.
Some people may argue saying Ambrosia is an internet "virtual" world and there is no need for decency. But for some people, ambrosia is more than just that. That's why Ambro owners are  striving  each day to make the community even better along with paying heavy bills each month for servers, server protection, and new projects; Software development team is coding many hours a day to update the forum and add new features, other staffs are  investing their time and energy in improving the community.

Personally speaking, I have played on other CS 1.6 servers too, where people are so nasty, passing very inappropriate comments and admins themselves swearing/insulting players. Is there any fun in playing in such server? But in ambrosia, we can make new friends and play without losing your dignity.
I always wanted to help ambrosia by donating, but I did not have PayPal account before. Then I made an account and donated. In return, Ron gave me a rank to show his appreciation. I never donated for a rank, nor I wanted anything in return. I did it because I love Ambrosia and I want to help. Then, some people put allegations on me saying that I donated for the PINK color.  Like Seriously? How demoralizing is that?
A few weeks ago, Ron offered me the position of Server Manager, but I said No at first because I knew that SM requires a lot of work. But after seeing how some DD2 server admins were tarnishing Ambrosia's image by breaking the rules themselves, I went back to Ron and told him that I want the position if it is free.  Why did I do that? because I just could not see the server degrading and someone had to take the responsibility of cleaning up the mess. After being in the position, I play almost every evening to provide coverage on the server, conducted admin meetings multiple times with the expectation of motivating them to be responsible towards their duties, working on solving the issues for inactive admins, boosting the server on the daily and weekly basis. After all these, What  I hear is, "Java is not fit for the position." What an allegation even without any solid reasoning. How motivating is that?

Seriously, I do not understand, why people are not seeing how selflessly we try our best to justify our positions in Ambrosia. And instead of encouraging, they just kill our motivation.

I am sorry for using "I" phrases. But, I really wanted to share my story to vent my emotion with honesty.
Just sayin u are supposed to cheer him up xD not to join him im the demoralized HAHAHA jk my previous post goes to u as well

Negative feedback and thoughts are like cancer and will only keep you down if you give it much importance, life has taught us that we need to be positive even in hard times, I'd say to those who try to spread disappointment and negativity if only you knew that Ambrosia had even harder times than ever as we knew ups and downs, but the community has always stood up and fought against negativity and mediocrity and that's why it's still alive since nine years now thanks to its conscious staff and all loyal members in general.

As our great leader and Fuhrer @Sneaky~RoN  said above decisions are super damn hard to make people, you never know if it's the right thing or the wrong thing
BUUUUUUUT i support Ron in any decision he makes, simply for the reason that he knows better than i do and that he has more experience that i might ever have ( In running a community ofc) I love the community i might not know what's best for it but that doesn't mean i wouldn't  supporting what is, i'd give him my opinion about it but i wouldn't tell him that i don't like it, And Ron everyone knows what you have done for the community and for those who don't oh boy you are missing out we will always be thankful for what you've done and for how much of a great leader you are ( you too @Ed )
ALL HAIL RON!!!!!!

All  community's have a view basic rules:

- Chat Language:
   English at Ambrosia.

-  No Religion or Racism:
So we can keep the peace.

- Respect the Admins.
They put in the effort for the community, and earn respect.

- No Cheating:
Even when they are known players or personal friends.

When we work together to apply these rules, Ambrosia will stay a good community.

Imho, the concept of rules is just something that we can rely on when actions are taken on people (most of the time) and allows us to ensure a bit of stability but we have to open our minds and see through them. There are a lot of possible situations in which the rules can be breached and yet, this wouldn't affect the community's stability and a lot of possible situations in which no rule would be breached but the community's stability would be affected drastically. But some of the rules are rules and if we want to take actions on people for breaching them, we have to apply the same judgement on every single player in this community.

Let's take a few examples so you can understand my point of view.

1. Language

Let's say that I take the decision to speak French in the forum and that I refuse to speak English. Of course, this wouldn't be allowed even if some people know how to speak French and that I'd be addressing only to them. Why ? Because I could be breaching other rules while communicating in French and the staff that doesn't necessarily speak French wouldn't be able to judge my posts aptly. Therefore, English only is allowed in the community.

Now, let's say that Andrew says something in greek to his friend (like only 2 words). Would this be allowed ? Hell no. This doesn't affect the community's stability directly since he's only having fun around with his friend but we have to ensure that people will respect this rule and we have to show the good example. If we tolerate this situation, it'll be harder to justify the action taken on people who abuse the rule. Therefore, a minimal action has to be taken here in order to ensure that people abide to the rules. Of course, Andrew shouldn't face a forum warning or whatsoever in this situation but a staff member has to give him a verbal warning so people understand that this kind of behavior is not allowed.

2. Insults

Regarding the insults or being rude in the forum, the case is completely different. Why so ? Because we have to be more openminded regarding this matter.

Let's say that I call SychO a retard and that I seriously meant it. Should I be punished for it ? Yes, of course.

Now, let's say that I call Andrew an idiot in forum in order to joke around. Should I be punished for it ? Well, that only depends on Andrew. I know that Andrew wouldn't take this seriously. So if he doesn't take it seriously, there's no need to punish me for it since this doesn't affect anything at all. But let's say that I'm wrong and that he takes it seriously. What should staff do ? Well, that only depends on the staff and on the situation. Most of the time, a forum warning would be issued since insulting people is not something light but a verbal warning can be issued if the offense is not too high.

Conclusion

What I mean is that according to the the rule and the situation, sometimes staff has to be strict and has to take actions, even in the least drastic situations in order to let people know that this kind of behavior is not allowed but sometimes, they can be more lenient and allow people to breach some rules as long as the community's stability is not affected. In this case, that only depends on how things go on and how the situation evolves.

Now, there's not only the rules that should be respected. Even though the rules allow us not to commit the most obvious offenses, there are a lot of situations that can heavily affect the community's stability while no rule is being breached.

For instance, last night someone came to the shoutbox and started criticizing the decisions that were taken by the staff. This kind of offense is heavier than simply insulting a guy in a post since this does heavily affect the community's stability. Even though, RoN remained calm about it and dealt with the situation in a professional way. But this kind of situation cannot be tolerated, specially when it affects all of these at the same time : 1) the community itself, 2) the owners, 3) a specific person.

Cheers.
