Some Good Info.
« on: August 06, 2014, 02:00:53 pm »
I made this topic for those who love to try different things in cs 1.6 and for those who don't understand the way of downloading, installing and extracting files so as to succeed in loading new /weapons/maps/skins etc... in cs 1.6
note : some information are from internet which i had rewritten, and some information are from my own knowledge which i hope its true.
I am just combining my knowledge with what I have read online.

[roundframe]Maps
(usually come as .BSP/.RES files)
[/roundframe]

Downloading Map Packages from sites on the Internet such as http://maps.cs-bg.info/, http://gamebanana.com, etc
Most map authors will package maps as:

  • executable installers (files with an .EXE extension)
  • archives (files with a .ZIP or .RAR extension)

After you have downloaded a custom map or a map pack, you must make sure that the maps are correctly installed before launching the game.
These files are usually packaged with the correct file directory structure pre-defined so it should only be necessary to install/extract maps and their associated resources to the correct directory, if you are extracting the files individually or you are not using a program such as WinZip, WinRar or 7-zip.
Be sure to double check that map resources are installed in the correct directories, as this is the most common reason for custom maps failing to load in-game.

To install custom maps, you should extract the custom map in the application directory. For example:
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\< Steam account name >\counter-strike\cstrike

Each content should be extract to the right folder of his type, For example:
.WAD Files:
Should be pasted for example here C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\< Steam account name >\counter-strike\cstrike
.BSP/.RES/.NAV Files:
Should be pasted for example here C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\< Steam account name >\counter-strike\cstrike\maps
Sound Files:
Should be pasted for example here C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\< Steam account name >\counter-strike\cstrike\sound

[roundframe]Skins
(usually come as .MDL file)
[/roundframe]

Weapons skins are most downloaded as files with .mdl extension for example :
v_gunname.mdl and this file (type of gun) should be pasted for example here C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\< Steam account name >\counter-strike\cstrike\models

as for the Player skins you must create a unique folder for each model in the player folder. For example, if you have a player model named gordon, you must put the gordon.mdl into it's own folder like this:
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\< Steam account name >\counter-strike\cstrike\models\player\gordon\gordon.mdl
Each model must be in a folder with the exact same name as the model in order to function correctly.

There should be a .mdl file and a .res file and maybe a .tag file for each model

.MDL Files:
Should be pasted for example here C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\< Steam account name >\counter-strike\cstrike\models\player\example\example.mdl
.RES Files:
Should be pasted for example here C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\< Steam account name >\counter-strike\cstrike\classes
.TAG Files:
Should be pasted for example here C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\< Steam account name >\counter-strike\cstrike\gfx\vgui

Thanks for Reading and to be Edited...
