When I get bored I start adding players who get caught cheating on our servers, guess I might start doing that more just for fun xd

I would not do that if i was you If this cheater wish to really hurt you in return he could fetch your ip through steam by.. a certain method and Ddos you, heck even doxx you

yeah, hackers can be really dangerous. block and ban 8)
there can be multiple reasons to become a cheater, but them all "lying" on an innocent game, just to show off "we are better than you". so sad and childish

But isn't that a hacker's job? If that's the case there's a difference between the hacker which knows that stuff, and the cheater who simply buy and download cheat software to use

I'm not a hacker, Nor a cheater But i could easily obtain your ip and decide to ddos you because " Fuck you " It is super easy.

I also used hacks for a month or two back in 2012-13. Reason: Someone told me about them and I wanted to check them out. Only used wall hacks and on random servers. I wasn't blatant so I ended up liking good scores until I started getting banned from the servers :p Got clean afterwards and never tried again.

Not even then, Theres a software which detects incoming voice-connections when you call / Receive a call and it fetches their ip immediately. It does this in all games which has voice-over-net too. Skype, Discord, Teamspeak. All of that included

I doubt there is such thing, at least for teamspeak, and for messages. This isnt a peer-to-peer connection. You connect to a server, and the server maintains a connection between you, so unless he has access to the server, he cant get your ip by simply talking to you. I believe the same to be true for discord, but not sure, havent used it long enough. Same goes for messages. The hacker has no access to you unless you somehow manage to install something or click a link. Another way would be to enter your steam account (in silex case) where he can view your IP history, and find your IP, but thats another story. Mostly it is the link thingy.

192.168.1.1 is your ip, i managed to hack it. If you dont trust me open cmd and type "ipconfig"
Thanks to your administrations rights up here :p I couldn't say better than all of you, IPs are very easy to get, even by logging in this forum, my ip is exposed since every administrators (owners) of this community can see my IP if I'm not wrong?

But the ip that redwolf linked is a IPv4 IP, That is everyones IPv4. In this case mine is 192.168.0.13 Usually 192.168.x.xx
also, redwolf would never leak an actual ip like that lul.

That's exactly exactly what i mean, even tho it was your gateway ip, you still fell for it. Which proves that the IPs rizen saw were not actually the real player IPs. Anyone with a few hours in networking would immediately recognise the IP, yet you didn't, which proves those "tutorials" are fake.
TL;DR It's IMPOSSIBLE to get someones IP address by simply sending them a message on steam, or voice calling them in the same platform (or even discord, Skype, teamspeak) without actually gaining privileged access to any of the platforms.
Just do yourself a favor and search peer-to-peer connection.
And no, i would never use my rights to leak any IPs. At max they are used to block schums.

Don't know what's all this debate about. But, Red is right. No one can simply track your IP via a server unless they have access to it. Steam, Teamspeak, Discord ARE NOT Peer-to-Peer. IP's are only exposed if it's a P2P connection. They can of course, intervene the connection between a peer and a server, which will require some sort of tool either on the server or your end; e.g. a software.

But ye lol, as somebody who actually graduated with bachelor title (currently working on major Eng. [MSc in UK/US], I can second what Redwolf said. Nobody can get your actual IP address from a simple steam message.

Fair enough. I weren't aware of Gateway IP's are the same.
