It's used to test beta versions of updates before they get released to the normal game.
I believe you can  play in the test server if the servers are down in the main game.

KotK is almost entirely based on the DayZ game and the Dayz game is almost entirely based on the DayZ mod in Arma II: Operation arrowhead, and DayZ mod is almost entirely based on the king of the hill mode in the game.

So... what's your point?

Not to mention, PUBG is ultimately superior game, where the dev wasn't just lazy and actually kept on improving the game, unlike KotK where all they did is add microtransactions to the game

Firstly, I never mentioned KotK is better. Copying could simply mean taking some things/ideas from a game, you can get ideas even from the worst game in the world. Secondly, KotK has some things similar with DayZ, but that was mostly cause Daybreak hired the guy to make KotK, but still in some things(like vehicles, duh) KotK, in my opinion, is better. Thirdly,  yes, PUBG is indeed a better game, but no, KotK does get constant updates, whether good or not. Microtranscations exist is many games nowadays, get over it, it's still not a pay2win game so I don't get what's wrong with that. And last but not least, KotK has a price of 20$ with often sales and PUBG costs 30$ on a good day and offers editions with trenchcoats for over 100 dollars. Clearly not a "c'mere stupid fellas wanting to waste your money" offer.

That's my point, you don't have to agree with it, but it stays.

P.S. DayZ is SUPPOSED to be closely similar to the DayZ mod, I think the names speak for themselves.
