Title: Locking your own topics
Post by: Rawrplus on May 29, 2016, 03:44:34 pm
Seems very healthy to contribution to discussion if people lock their own topics. Don't you think?

You are doing extremes in order to prove a point?
Don't see no reason for them not to have that right. Their topic after all. On the other hand we can always over rule it. ;)

Isn't that a bit counter-intuitive if someone posts something and they can virtually block opinion of others by locking their own topic?  Also, this topic is mainly just sarcastic ;)

Isn't that exactly what the staff in Ambrosia on eu was doing massively? I am not pointing fingers, but how would that be any different?
It doesn't matter as I said we can over rule it any time we want. Plus people can discuss things in private messaging or making a new thread about it. Or we could ask the topics creator to unlock the topic and not do it constantly. There are ways to work around it. Anyone who does it constantly, basically trolling will have to deal with consequences. Down to common sense and if they are lacking it we can show them "the way" :P

Please stop locking your topic! As I have unlocked it for further discussion!

The reason why I kept locking it is to exactly prove my point of how silly it is when somebody locks their own topic and how it prevents people from further discussion.

By you commanding me to do it, you literally underline the argument I'm trying to make here. This only puts more pressure on moderation and if I didn't specifically post in frequented board and none of the moderators noticed, I'd block input from discussion.
For example here (http://ambrosia-servers.com/community/index.php?topic=35292.msg443005#msg443005). User just randomly locks his topic preventing any form of further discussion. Admittedly, the topic doesn't offer too much of reasonable discussion, but more importantly you can see nobody from the moderation team has noticed (and I don't blame them, it's impossible to frequent every topic and at every time).

There is literally zero benefit from someone locking (or even removing) their topic.  Like really, give me one scenario where it's good where user will lock or even absolutely remove his entire topic. 1 scenario.
And no, thart's not what ambrosia.eu was doing.

Either way, I don't really give a shit, this is just a minor complaint but it's a stupid flaw nonetheless that you guys keep for sake of being different instead of actually easing your own work lol.

Also please, let me lock this topic again, wanted to undermine how stupid it is when somebody locks their own topics and nobody can contribute to the discussion  :(

Actually you are wrong, I saw that topic and left him have it locked and I am sure Mods saw it too. Makes no difference to any of them. IT is his introduction topic. It depends on how valuable is the topic. If someone has a problem with someone locking their topic when they wanted to post there, we can see to unlock it.
Well to be fair, if you are going to undermine my request then a 30% of warning would be sufficient? You don't have to be an asshole you know? And at the end of the day, makes no difference to me. IF you want to be an asshole and people do find that your topic was of value then they might come and report it to be unlocked or the thread opened elsewhere. All can be done etc. Not a big problem. IT is rather petty if you ask me.

I mean technically speaking, wouldn't this be my suggestion and I could do what I want to do with it? E.g. lock it or remove it? Just following the logic set here. What if I wish for this topic stay locked?

Either way, as I can see, I'm losing my time with this matter. You've made up your mind before anyone could even change it on this particular issue. Also please, don't threaten me. I didn't lock the topic, did I? I literally posted it is silly if people behaved like I did in this very same topic and then I get threatened to get warned for the exact same thing I'm trying to prevent here from happening, lol.  But oh well...

Either way, not interested in getting petty arguments. I've made my point and a very salient one  at that, I'd like to think.  I'm not interested in getting into arguments for petty minor details I tried bringing it up as a form of feedback and feedback only,  let's not try to transform it into some form of personal attack or "drama".

Lol!
I gave you an example, I am sorry you took it as a threat.
Look, to be fair you are acting like a child! The only problem we have had so far with someone locking their topic is you! Not sure what you achieved there by doing that. But hey someone had to do it. I think I will adjust it so you can't do it in drama corner! And therefore this topic goes straight to drama corner ;) Deal? :D

You know there is this movie, not sure the name but Tom Cruise was the main guy, to do with preventing crimes what will happen in future. The concept was great, but flawed. We will deal with the problem if it ever becomes a problem.

Isn't the exact point of suggestion and feedback to improve on things happening or potentially happening? Guess I got it all mixed up. Silly old me.  :-X

Well, am just speaking here.. Locking the people's own topic will be kinda unfair cause some people wanna say their opinion too, and by locking it you removed the right for the members to say their opinion true ?, am just saying tho...

Well I think the idea of this is good, but not the way it is now. @Eros Would it be possible like, to be able to lock a topic after at least 10 people have posted (or a other reasonable ammout of people). In other words, of course you can always overrule that  but I think it would be easier for you and would let people express themself for a ammout of posts :=

Maybe I'm wrong, but in my opinion ''Locking your own topics''  , reduce the post quality and prevent constructive thinking .

As long as topic starters respect other opinions and so on it's not a big deal, for me it's like a bonus for all Ambrosians we should keep as we never had it.
