Title: Learner group
Post by: header on July 01, 2015, 02:29:39 pm
Wanting to start with a learner group.

What one of these are is 3-5 beginners working together to learn a coding language or anything if i'm honest.
What we learn we share and what we do we also share, IF anyone would like to start this with me, please reply.
Basic coding knowledge would help but isn't required as most of the details can get sorted while we do it.

Now dontodo can get some love for the like system, so he doesn't feel left out. :3

Anyway, I'm not sure if I can really get some decent time to introduce everybody here to source coding having the time frame and other work. Not to mention this year I'm starting with java,javascript,prolog/lisp and algorithm creation. As I can't really work with two different programming environments having the risk of getting something wrong and such. I did have time and effort to that in july, but apparently kind of got prolonged too much.

I will be leaving some useful links to as where you can get common source sdk coding problems answered and explained.

http://steamcommunity.com/app/211/discussions/2/ (http://steamcommunity.com/app/211/discussions/2/)
https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Category:Programming (https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Category:Programming)
http://www.amazon.com/Source-SDK-Game-Development-Essentials/dp/184969592X (http://www.amazon.com/Source-SDK-Game-Development-Essentials/dp/184969592X) - think you can find this book on torrents and such (pardon for spreading piracy)
https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Authoring_a_Logical_Entity (https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Authoring_a_Logical_Entity) , this is like the main start for any source coder. (Be sure to use Visual Studio as IDE, least for the code compiling)
http://www.interlopers.net/tutorials/ (http://www.interlopers.net/tutorials/)

Now you may be wondering, but replica this is programming in the source engine for hl2/hl2ep1/hl2ep2/css making mods of these games and shit like that. WELL if you want to get to METAMOD Scripting you gotta tackle these conundrums. Least that's my advice before moving to metamod scripting.

As for the tutorials on metamod scripting:
https://wiki.alliedmods.net/Introduction_to_sourcemod_plugins (https://wiki.alliedmods.net/Introduction_to_sourcemod_plugins)
https://wiki.alliedmods.net/Introduction_to_sourcepawn (https://wiki.alliedmods.net/Introduction_to_sourcepawn)
https://wiki.alliedmods.net/Category:SourceMod_Scripting (https://wiki.alliedmods.net/Category:SourceMod_Scripting)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lc-aoC8X20E&list=PL37491C3F32A5B092 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lc-aoC8X20E&list=PL37491C3F32A5B092)
-I had this guy help me couple of times when I was doing some small plugins for counter strike source.

Now I know as a teacher I have to sit with you and explain everything step by step, but if roni can do it or what he knows. The rest of it is just problem solving than actually learning new things.

Be advised, for source sdk coding / metamode scripting you should have a good c++ background as it's object orientated language.

Anyway don't expect everything to be served on table here, you have to and I must say willingly to accept and learn something than just see this as a "job". Those links aren't gonna read themselves you know.

P.S: SourcePawn's scope of games are all the source engine games, therefore there isn't a SET sequence from where to where you want the csgo part

Im not sure if i got the time to participate, but honestly i think you guys NEED to get started, so i made you a Slack group, just send me your e-mail trough PN or post it here and i will invite you to the ambrosia-coding group.

Slack is a simple team managing and organisation tool, which is widely advertised as the application that helped sending a rover to the Mars! (was used by NASA) You can use it on webbrowser, on your mobile-device or on your computer.

It pretty much speaks for itself and you'll quickly get the hang of it. Feel free to use it and ask me any question.

Today's lesson will be in JavaScript

Code: [Select]
<script>
function i_cant_read_dates() {
  var d = new Date();
  var current_date = d.getDate();
  var message = "Hello dummy, check the date of the last post and see if it's old. In case you didn't know the current date is:";
  document.write(message);
  document.write(current_date);
}
</script>

A nice and simple script for beginners
