Title: Best Answer System
Post by: Rawrplus on June 01, 2015, 10:55:56 am
Today we've launched a new system on forums, called "Best Answer".

This allows users to mark the most helpful replies to a topic. This should be preferably used in Support section, Suggestion and Feedback., Graphic Requests and sometimes maybe even in other boards.
Users who will be able to mark the best answer:

- Users who create the topic can mark one of the replies as a best answer.
- Moderators of the board it was posted in
- Forum Administrators.

It's not an update of a huge significance but we hope this will improve the browsing of our forums. If you use the best answer system to highlight something for no reason, or because of subjectivity, moderators reserve the rights to warn you and progress with further punishment. We have given this feature to you, because we entrust you to not abuse it, so please, don't go around marking every single reply.  :D

Sounds cool

But if we were to vote up an comment, Like its usefulness - Does it go to to the top or just get highlighted?

To avoid confusion, likes system is to share sympathy with the author of the post and it's content, or even a particular reply to the post. The Best Answer system is used to highlight one particular reply that either the moderators/administerator/or the user wishes to highlight.

For example, let's say I have an issue with my graphics card. I'll post in support section. Somebody posts a solution, so I will highlight the reply for everybody to see so they can see, which reply helped me to fix the issue, instead of having to try to search through every method posted.

Likes have no direct influence on the Best Answer System.

When i think of it, Wouldnt it be better if the reply went up as the top comment & Highlighted?

Cause i see some subject has pages to scroll through & Will probaly arise again, And yet people needs to scroll through em all to find an highlighted one

The idea is alright, And helps out a tad bit ... but still lots of searching for the highlit reply

It basically works like this. On top of the topic it informs you that a topic contains a best answer, and you can click on redirection link if you wish to see it immediately and also highlights the particular post, when and by whom.

The color green takes way too much attention and the borders are way to big

What i would suggest is to change the default green color from the plugin to something more darker like this? #1B951B Also changing the borders size px to 1-2?

Yeah I could potentially. This was just the initial build.

Shouldn't it be like that? It's meant to grab peoples' attention and tell you that THIS is the best solution thus I wouldn't change anything with this as it looks okay to me.

That doesn't mean it must take full attention of the visitors as there might be other-similar solutions which work just as fine but just because they are not highlighted doesn't mean people should ONLY follow the one which is?

Don't you think?

could you make the colors slightly more like the forum theme?

I love the idea, though i think it can be made less hurtfull to my eyes :D

It seems that you're completely missing out the whole idea behind this mod.. Also, this doesn't take the whole page so why would you want even smaller? It doesn't scream, "I'M THE ONLY SOLUTION IN THIS TOPIC!" but "I've been selected as the best solution out of others in this thread." I'm doing web design just like you and I know you'll just throw your thoughts and completely ignore mine but you can't argue about 1-2 px's of the border that's not gonna do a huge ass difference..

Honestly fragment you started to get a little bit annoyin'.

First of all i started my sentence with:
Quote from: Darki
What i would suggest is
This was supposed to be a suggestion and could fix the eye-hurting problem because the green color is way too open for the dark-colors that are used in Zone99 and not to mention it can be less attention-seeker so people could see the best answer but not to avoid other answers & posts aswell.

Quote from: Fragment
that's not gonna do a huge ass difference..
Did i say the plugin sucks? Did i say swap it with this one? IT'S AN IMPROVEMENT ofcourse it's not gonna make a huge "ass" difference on the css, it's just minor-problem fixer like the eye-hurting like pim just posted.

Quote from: Fragment
this doesn't take the whole page so why would you want even smaller?
Designers don't talk like that, how much time have you been spending in total, web designing websites? Any showcase of your work? If improvements wouldn't exist now me and you were going to talk on an ugly ass forum with shitty colors.

Quote from: Fragment
I'm doing web design just like you and I know you'll just throw your thoughts and completely ignore mine.
To be clear i'm not doing web-design, but front end development. I never did ignore your thoughts, but hey that's what designers do, negative and positive feedbacks come along. That's what we do.

First argument; the colour is indeed a little bit eye-hurting and I've not said anything about the colour. By saying, "I wouldn't change anything with this", I meant the dimensions of the border are completely fine and they don't need any adjustments.

Second argument; what I meant with, "huge ass difference" was aimed towards the suggested pixels size, not whatever you thought it was..

Third argument; "Designers don't talk like that". How do they talk? Haha! You're going offtopic with this as if your knowledge about "front-end" development is far superior to mine. That's not the case in this dispute so why would I want to show you my work? Completely didn't get that..

Lastly; it was my only assumption since I'm not talking to you on a daily basis and by the looks of things that you've done in Hydra, "web design" was my only thought.

Anyway, you're saying that the colour is too bright and the border is slightly bold. I find no problem with it, maybe apart from the colour. End of! ;)

PS. I'm on the brink of finishing a web development course (http://www.edinburghcollege.ac.uk/courses/course_description_new.aspx?id=CR1IM1WB15&campus=&keyword=&dept=bus) at college, I know a thing or two when it comes to "front-end" design

That'd look nice & yet wouldnt hurt your eyes

The colour that PowerDarki has mentioned is actually pretty decent and in my honest opinion, it should be changed to that. Think of those colours that you've mentioned and tell me what do you think of them? Dark red doesn't give the impression of something being achieved yet fixed instead it gives you a false feeling as it's red. Red is just not associated with things being done, haha! It's the exact opposite. Aqua, that colour just doesn't suit the theme of the forums whatsoever.

I'd say go for a darker green or a colour that catches our attention but not too flashy. This maybe? No idea what colour Darki suggested so could be exact same as mine :D

//This is what Darki suggested which is just a bit lighter than the one I suggested, correct me if I'm wrong, either one would work in my opinion.

Fragment i'm no longer giving any more explanation as we both know where it will leads us. The course you're in at this moment is pretty decent one to start with and also that you did mention about hydra, i finished it within 2days something which i wasnt even getting paid for.

Anyways the darker green color i just gave was randomly taken, but yea you could give them a try and which one fits better but honestly i think that the borders size must be reduced a bit. #nomoretalkingfrag :|

Won't there be some "competition" between the suggesters (helpers) if it's on a support section, like everyone wants to show off and make sure that his answer is the .. hmm, the best answer?

The policy will be added in the rules as well.
